Rail signalling is one of the rail systems used to direct railway traffic and keep trains clear of each other at all times avoiding collision. The enormous weight and inertia of a train makes it difficult to stop in time due to obstacles on the track. Usually Railway Regulations or Acts will impose requirements such as the implementation of interlocked block signalling to ensure safety of passengers, operators and other vehicles/pedestrians/wildlife.
